Professional Goals for 2015

Hey all!

I know I’ve talked about creating smart goals a couple times on this blog in the past, but let me just reiterate what makes good goals. Goals should be:

  • Specific – Goals should be simply written and clearly define what you are going to do.
  • Measurable – Goals should be measurable so that you have tangible evidence that you have accomplished the goal.
  • Achievable – Goals should be achievable; they should stretch you slightly so you feel challenged, but defined well enough so that you can achieve them.
  • Results-focsed – Goals should measure outcomes, not activities.
  • Time-bound – Goals should be linked to a timeframe that creates a practical sense of urgency.

It’s not easy to make a year’s worth of goals. The key is to break them down into smaller and smaller goals . Those small goals are like the stairs you climb to get to he big ones.

Education

My overall goal as far as my education is to get my Masters of Science degree in Exercise and Sports Sciences. However, my student loans are almost in the 6-figure mark and I refuse to add more debt to my life. So until I can pay it out of pocket, the MS is on the back burner. I’m hoping 2016 has more promise were that is concerned.

  •  Certifications
    • 2 new certifications
      • Aqua Fitness – $200 (by May 31)
      • Spinning – $325 (by August 31)
    • Renewals
      • ACE Group Fitness certification (by January 15)
      • AFAA Personal Trainer (by September 18)

Business

This is where I need the largest amount of growth in 2015. I need to be financially independent and will need to really work this portion of my goals list to make that happen.

  • Get a full-time job (by January 31)
  • Personal Training
    • Have a committed 12 hours per week booked every week (by March 31)
    • Online Personal Training
      • Have it fully operational (by March 1)
      • Have 6 hours per week booked every week (by March 31)
  • Fitness Instruction
    • Limit teaching to 8 hours per week (by March 31st)
    • Teach new formats including Insanity and TRX. (by February 28)
    • Find at least 1 gym gym in Manhattan to teach at. (by February 28)
  • Publicity
    • Publish 6 fitness related articles
    • Book 2 speaking engagements
    • Attend at least 1 fitness conference
    • Volunteer at 3-4 events.
    • Hold 3 free family fitness events during the summer
      • Themes:
        • June: Party Time
        • July: Watered Down
        • August: On The Track
  • Social Media
    • Increase Twitter followers to 5,000
      •  1,000 by January 31.
      • 2,000 by March 31.
      • 3,000 by June 30.
      • 4,000 by September 30.
    • Retweet at least 5 times per day.
    • Participate in at least 2 Twitter Chats per week.
      • #RunChat on Sundays @ 8pm est.
      • #RaceChat on Wednesdays @ 8pm est.
    • Increase Facebook followers to 1,500
      • 750 by January 31.
      • 1,000 by April 30.
      • 1, 250 by August 31.
      • Visit and comment on at least 3 Facebook pages per day.
    •  Increase Instagram followers to 2,000
      • 500 by March 31.
      •  1,000 by June 30.
      • 1,500 by September 30.
      • Comment on at least 5 posts per day.
    • Increase blog views and comments by 200%
      • Continuously publish at least 16 posts per month, include call to action on each post.
      • Read and comment on at least 3 blogs per day.
  • Miscellaneous Growth
    • Hire a Branding Consultant (by August 31)
    • Work on plan for moving business in the late Fall.
    • Look for opportunities in corporate wellness.

That’s about it. It’s a lot, I know. But i can do it. Or at least work my ass off to get there.
